Day 4 of Wikimania in Nairobi, Kenya

For the last day of Wikimania, I saw a talk/panel called “Bridging the Digital Divide: The Role of Libraries in Supporting Open Knowledge in Underserved Communities” which once again made me realize how much libraries and Wikipedia have in common – it’s like the first are a brick and mortar version of the latter.

After that, I helped a Wikimedian from Indonesia to contribute a function to Wikifunctions in Indonesian. We went from the often heard “I still don’t get Wikifunctions!” to writing a composition implementation in just a few minutes!

I also watched the Hackathon Showcase. All the winners of the Coolest Tool Award are fantastic, but let me just mention one: Paulina. It’s a fantastic way to browse Public Domain books and artworks that has to be seen.

After that, it was time for the closing ceremony. By far the most used Swahili phrase during the closing ceremony: Asanteni sana (thank you all very much). That was it. Au revoir à Wikimania à Paris en 2026!
